ABOUT SOCCER: U8 DIVISION

The Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska U8 Soccer Division will continue with the format established with the U6 Soccer Division, but teams will now play 5v5 with goalkeepers with age appropriate sized goals. The larger space will allow for a smoother transition from our U8 Soccer Division into the U10 Soccer Division. Practices will take place on Monday evenings at various Anchorage School District schools throughout the city while games will played on Wednesday/Thursday evenings at the Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska Woodland Park location. The practices:games ratio will be 1:1 with a a total of 10 games scheduled during the twelve-week season.

The emphasis for players participating in the Boys & Girls Clubs - Alaska U8 Soccer Division should be learning to act with the ball purposefully. These points include handling the ball with both feet and both hands, occupying the original position during the game once an action is finished, basic coordinated movements with and without the ball, stopping and running with the ball at speed, moving forward when attacking and retreating when defending, and basic quick movements with and without the ball.
